Salt, lifeblood to small communities on an archipelago with over 7,000 islands is dying. Numerous factors affect the survival of this industry. But the industry can also effectuate impactful change for behind the tiny grain of salt lies not only a livelihood, but a culture.


ASIN is a documentary film that explores the Philippine Salt Industry, its artisans and its promising future into modern kitchens. There is the story of the nearly extinct Asin Tibuok of Bohol, one the rarest salts of the world with only one family remaining to preserve the craft. The elusive Sugpo Asin remains elusive. Then, there is the struggle from within; a government with all good intentions creating the current state of the industry. But all is not lost; a bright future looms from the shadows of its past.
